How to track workouts for muscle growth
If you do not log sets, progressive overload is guesswork. Here is what to track for hypertrophy — and what you can ignore.
A workout tracker is only useful if it makes next week’s session clearer than memory.
Log these every working set
- Exercise name
- Weight
- Reps
- Optional: RPE or how hard it felt
Skip obsessing over every warm-up. Focus on working sets for your main lifts.
Review once a week
Ask: Did anything progress? Stuck lifts? Too much junk volume? That weekly review is where hypertrophy programs improve.
Phone vs Watch
Gym floors are bad for phones. An Apple Watch companion and Lock Screen rest timers keep logging friction low — which is why people stick with tracking.
How FitFort helps
FitFort is an iPhone fitness app built around workout logging, nutrition, and recovery, with Apple Watch and Live Activities so the log happens during the set — not after you forget.
